Cataldo Oil, Gas & Energy Law was born from the entrepreneurial vision of Sergio Cataldo, who combined his engineering and legal expertise to serve the energy sector with excellence.
Since its founding, the firm has focused on delivering customized and innovative solutions for small and medium-sized businesses in the oil, gas, and renewable energy markets.

Our Founder
Cataldo Oil, Gas & Energy Law was founded in 2024 by Chief Legal Officer Dr. Sérgio Cataldo, a lawyer with over 10 years of experience. He holds a law degree from UniverCidade Cândido Mendes (UCAM) and an electronic engineering degree from Centro Universitário da Cidade (UniverCidade). Dr. Sérgio Cataldo has always sought to integrate his technical and legal knowledge to provide innovative and comprehensive solutions to his clients.
He has specializations in Energy Law from UCAM – AVM and in Oil & Gas Law from the Catholic University of Petrópolis (FUNCEFET – UCP), in addition to pursuing a Master’s in Regulatory Law at UCAM.
However, his journey began much earlier, in 1982, when, as a young professional, he started his career at Petrobrás, working in platform maintenance. With an entrepreneurial vision and dedication, he excelled as an automation engineer and later led major projects, including the construction of an oil tanker and a platform with a capacity of 150,000 barrels. In 2002, he transitioned into contract law, where he identified the need for a lawyer with technical expertise, which motivated him to study law between 2008 and 2012.
In 2013, amid a challenging political and economic landscape in the energy sector, Dr. Sérgio Cataldo founded Cataldo Advocacia. Today, with a team of approximately 30 professionals, the firm provides high-quality legal support, ensuring that clients receive the best service and tailored solutions.
With Cataldo Advocacia well established, Dr. Sérgio Cataldo continued to strengthen his connection to the Oil & Gas sector, investing in his technical and cultural development. Fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, he continuously works to bridge the gap between law and the energy industry. His expertise and global perspective prepare him to tackle the challenges of an increasingly internationalized market.
